Larry Booth Custom Landscape Design and Installation select and install plants that are hardy for New York State Region 4 or better. As a design operation we are aware of what plants are proper for what locations and our installation techniques are state of the art. No additional fertilization is necessary the first year.
Plant material, installed by Larry Booth Custom Landscape Design and Installation is quaranteed for two years from date of planting as long as payment terms have been satisfied. Perennials, roses and ornamental grasses are guaranteed for one growing season (Apr-Nov). Animal damage, acts of nature, too much or too little watering may void this guarantee.
Plants vary significantly as do their adaptation levels. Depending on the variety, the time of year, rainy weather, dry weather, fertilization, sunny v. shady location, drainage etc. plants will respond differently. Some plants such as evergreens show little stress initially, while others like Hydrangea, Ornamental Grasses and Variegated Dogwood may show leaf burn or wilting. For some conditions this is normal. Over time, as plants develop roots, they become more tolerant of both wetter and dryer conditions. Getting through the first year is the most difficult. Common sense to watering and the following tips will be helpful in achieving your beautiful landscape.
At initial planting, Larry Booth will have watered all plants thoroughly. Afterwards, the general rule is to water each plant heavily, twice a week for the first 3-4 weeks, then once a week thereafter. The following year, water individually during hot and dry times or if plants look wilted. If your property is equipped with an irrigation system, heavy watering may still be important for the first 3-4 weeks Irrigation systems typically only maintain surface water and not deep down where the roots are. Although you may be able to stretch out your individual waterings.
Not to confuse things but too much watering is the next worse thing for your plants. If you aren't sure, dig down beside a newly installed plant or two and see how wet it is, then adjust accordingly. If you think you've over watered stop until things dry up and proceed less aggressively. Remember plants are somewhat resilient and will show some signs of stress even under normal conditions so relax and enjoy your investment.
Winters in western NY can be tough on plants. Cold temperatures, whipping winds and animal damage. We recommend winterizing and preventing animal damage with repellants and/or fencing.
